Cerecon Engineering was engaged to design the system to enable relocation of the Mont Albert station building, a heritage structure over a century old. Our role encompassed designing both permanent and temporary works to achieve this intricate task while retaining the building’s historical integrity.
Our initial focus involved designing temporary works that would facilitate the safe removal of the Mont Albert station building from its original site and its subsequent transport to a factory. This meticulous planning and execution allowed us to safeguard the building’s delicate historical features while preparing it for its transformation to a modular building.
Cerecon’s approach was instrumental in repurposing the heritage structure into a modern modular structure. Our engineers conceptualized a steel framing system, tailored to reinforce the heritage building elements removed from site. This ingenious framing effectively turned the heritage structure into a modular building, significantly reducing the reconstruction timeline on site.
A core tenet of our strategy was the maximization of the original building’s elements. By intricately integrating the existing timber framing into our steel design, we minimized the need for replacement materials during reconstruction. This approach not only upheld sustainability principles but also preserved the building’s authentic character.
The culmination of our efforts resulted in the installation of the relocated Mont Albert station building in two primary modules: the wall and roof module. This meticulous segmentation ensured a smooth and precise installation process, carefully executed through the utilization of a crane, significantly reducing on site construction time.
