Multi Unit Development – 2263-2267 Dandenong Rd, Mulgrave
Cerecon played a central part in the design of the multi-level social housing development, as part of the State Government’s Victorian Big Housing to provide safe short and long-term public and community housing and support for Victorians experiencing crisis.
Cerecon’s scope involved the design and documentation of a 4-storey apartment building with 9 adjacent townhouses. The apartment including a 2-storey basement, which accommodated 72 apartments. The structural design utilised a mix of shear walls and cores to provide lateral stability while accommodating a large opening within the centre of the building for a garden area for residents.
A significant milestone was navigating the shift in construction methods. Initially planned using precast concrete shell modules, the project’s direction evolved due to the client’s changing needs. Cerecon adapted to the client’s decision to transition from precast modules to a traditional concrete column and flat slab design approach.
Facilitating this transition involved a comprehensive re-evaluation of the structure. Our team worked collaboratively with the client to ensure that the updated design preserved both the architectural and client’s vision, while ensuring the structure remains structurally sound.
Cerecon Engineering’s role in this project extends beyond engineering proficiency; it underscores our capacity to navigate design shifts while upholding quality, functionality, and architectural vision. This development stands as an example of our adaptability and commitment to adapting to our clients needs to ensure the best project outcomes.
